HBO Max Looks “Super” in July 2020

If you feel the need to be “rescued,” stream the superheroes on HBO Max this month.

We love HBO Max here at The Solid Signal Blog. And why wouldn’t we? This streaming service is owned by AT&T, and we’re an AT&T Preferred Dealer. We also appreciate HBO Max because it has so many great shows and series. July 2020 is no exception. There’s a huge variety of different HBO originals and second-run movies to choose from. Out of that, one overwhelming theme emerged: superhero shows. These dominate the July 2020 lineup, but there’s much more to see on HBO’s premier streaming service.

Bye Bye, Batman? Not Quite

Okay, first thing is first. HBO Max is losing its 1980s/1990s Batman movies. They’re heading back to AT&T’s DC Universe specialty channel. Fans of Gotham’s favorite crimefighter need not be disappointed. HBO Max is rolling out eight animated Batman movies:

  • Batman & Mr. Freeze: SubZero
  • Batman and Harley Quinn
  • Batman vs. Two-Face
  • The Batman vs. Dracula
  • Batman: Assault on Arkham
  • Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders
  • Batman: Under the Red Hood
  • Batman: Year One

If you need to feed your Batman fix, you can stream any of these dynamic animated adventures. Actually, you can and should stream them all because DC probably won’t make movies out of any of them. If they did, my vote would be The Batman Vs. Dracula. Could you just imagine a showdown between fiction’s two most iconic “bat-men?”

“Super” Streaming on HBO Max

Let’s talk about some of the other superheroes we get this month. Namely, it’s the Christopher Reeve Superman movies. If you’re a member of Generation X, these are “your” Superman movies. You might even be more familiar with these flicks than the actual Superman of DC Comics fame.

  • Superman: The Movie
  • Superman II
  • Superman III
  • Superman IV: The Quest for Peace

This month, HBO Max also lets us stream these newer Superman movies:

  • Superman Returns
  • Superman: Brainiac Attacks
  • Superman: Unbound

And the DC Comics fun doesn’t end there. There are also eight Justice League animated titles to stream in July 2020. There are also five Lego DC movies, if you’re into that kind of thing. And there’s the premier of the documentary Necessary Evil: The Super-Villains of DC Comics. So, like I said, you’ll be losing those 1980s/1990s Batman movies. You’re also gaining a boatload of DC Comics content.

Plenty of Original Content, Too!

HBO Max’s recent lineup isn’t all superheroes and second run flicks. There’s also plenty of new content to stream? Surprised? I’m not. HBO has been the king of original streaming series and shows for quite some time now. And, you might be glad to know it’s not planning on relinquishing that crown.

The July 2020 lineup has a handful of anime series, a few movies, and Foodie Love. This eight-part series set in Spain is about two 20-somethings who meet on a foodie mobile dating app. The trailer is a bit risqué so you’ll have to check out yourself on YouTube.
