But how long does it take?
Of course, when you get started, you’ll want to start watching TV instantly. But, I want to set fair expectations. This device has a lot of hard work to do before it starts showing live TV. And that takes time.
In general, if you’re taking it out of the box for the first time and you don’t have an activated receiver, you should give yourself an hour or more minutes. This will include the time you spend getting the receiver activated, the time it spends downloading software, and that sort of thing. You’ll get the fastest results by calling 888-233-7563 and letting the experts at Signal Connect activate the receiver for you.
If you’re taking an activated receiver from home and connecting it to the Tailgater, you should still expect about 20 minutes’ wait while the Tailgater self-aims and confirms everything it needs. The final check process takes 5-6 minutes by itself.
If you’re turning on the device after it’s already perfectly aimed, it shouldn’t take more than just a few minutes to confirm everything. It’s essentially the same amount of time you would expect to spend if you powered up the receiver at home.
Is there a way to speed this up?
For the most part there’s only one way to make the whole process go faster. Make sure the Tailgater is on a level surface, as level as possible. Then make sure the handle is facing north. This will orient the device properly, which saves time as it’s going through its internal self tests. It may only save you 1-2 minutes, but hey every little bit counts.
