NEW VIDEO: Create a favorites list with DIRECTV Genie

Here’s a video a long time coming. In fact I must apologize, dear readers, because I thought I had already done it. It turns out I’d written an article on this subject, but never gotten around to creating the video.

Why create a favorites list?

There are literally hundreds of channels on DIRECTV. Some are music-only, some are pay-per-view, and some are private. Of the rest, there are bound to be some that aren’t to your taste. And, unless you pay for the top, top package, there are bound to be some that you just don’t get. Having all those channels in the guide is pretty impressive when you show it to a friend (I guess), but they can get in the way of you finding exactly what you want to watch, right?

Luckily, DIRECTV gives you two customizable favorites lists, as well as an automatic list of channels in your programming package. All you need to do is learn how to access them.

It couldn’t be easier.

It all starts by pressing the INFO button on live TV. Wait, a video is worth 1,000 words. Let me show you this way:

It’s so easy that the video itself isn’t even that long.

What if you still have the older-style menus?

Yes, there are still people who don’t use the Genie system even though it’s been around for a decade. Business customers don’t use it, unless they have the new H44 receiver. So, if you’re still using the older-style menus, don’t worry about it. I did a video to help you as well. Even though I did it quite a while ago, it’s still relevant.

OK, don’t laugh at the production values. Folks, this was 2014. I’ve gotten a lot better since then. It’s still a solid video, but yeah I agree that there are some things I might have done differently.

Need more help?

Sometimes you need more help than just a video can deliver. That’s when you want to talk to the experts. But no one really wants to talk on the phone anymore, right? We all hate it because there are phone trees and script readers and overseas call centers. Here’s the secret, folks: I hate that stuff as much as you do. That’s why I’m really glad I work for a company that makes all that stuff… disappear.

When you call Solid Signal for DIRECTV support, you get connected to a group of dedicated technicians, not script readers. We’re all located in Solid Signal’s Detroit-area offices, and we’re here to serve you. We believe in real customer service and that includes answering the phone when you call. If you really connect with your tech you can even ask them for their email or direct phone number! That way you’ll skip to the front of the line for next time.

It all starts with a call to 888-233-7563 during East Coast business hours. That’s the direct connection to trained satellite technicians. If it’s after hours, fill out the form below. I promise, it’s worth waiting a little while to talk to an expert instead of dealing with a script reader in the middle of the night.
