For the first time ever, I wish that I had Hulu.
I’ve always thought of Hulu as a “Stuart Sweet thing.” And by that, I mean he’s always waxing poetic about the grandeur of the streaming service’s originals. Just the other day, he was going on and on about something called The Premise. Apparently, the series had an episode that dealt with online commenters and trolls. (I had to bite my tongue a bit when he said th at!) Anyway, even though I’m the self-proclaimed “King of Streaming,” I showed much interest in Hulu… until now.
Hulu Has Original Content!
Admittedly, this isn’t news to me. I’ve always known about Hulu originals but, like I said, I chalked it up to being a “Stuart thing.” I mean, I saw The Handmaid’s Tale, the 1990 original, when it came out. It didn’t exactly knock my socks off then, so the 2017 Hulu series of the same name seemed uninspired and uninspiring to me. Fast forward to now. Stuart’s incessant yakking about The Premise encouraged me to see what the green streaming service has to offer today. Needless to say, I found three Hulu originals that seem interesting.
Taste The Nation, Holiday Edition
By the time you read this, Taste the Nation is already running. (It kicked off November 4.) The series stars the famous host and cookbook author Padma Lakshmi. The lovely Ms. Lakshmi takes viewers on a journey the explores the rich and diverse food culture of immigrant groups in America. She places an emphasis on those people whose cooking has helped shape what American food is today. This holiday edition consists of four episodes. I’ll bet you can’t check out the trailer and not be hungry:
Marvel’s Hit-Monkey
Wait! I thought all Marvel content was for Disney+ or something? Or doesn’t Disney own Hulu? Whatever! All I know is that this is a Marvel property, and its premise is amazingly cool. Okay, so Hit-Monkey is about a Japanese snow monkey who teams up with the ghost of an American assassin. Why do they team up for? Oh, just to get revenge on the Yakuza members who wiped out the snow monkey’s clan. The trailer looks amazing, but I can’t share it here. You can look it up on YouTube and, if you like it, catch the series on Hulu starting November 17.
The Curse of Von Dutch: A Brand to Die For
Oh, how I remember when Von Dutch was a thing. I remember wanting one… until I saw the price tag that came with it. With this documentary, we find out that there’s much more to the Von Dutch clothing line than expensive trucker caps. Much more, actually, and some of it is downright creepy! If you’re a Hulu subscriber, you can get the full story starting November 18. Until then, check out the trailer:
