2022 EDITION: Let’s talk about a portable cell booster

TOPICS:

OK, here’s a question that never really goes away. Hey, I get it. I get that you want to save a little money. t seems like the best way to do that would be a cell booster you can bring with you. I’ve said before, it’s not impossible. You can buy a small booster for home and bring it with you. You can buy a vehicle booster and connect it with a power bank. There are a lot of possibilities. But is it really the best choice for you?

Take a look at the facts

There is no such thing as a truly portable cell booster. It’s just not something that the manufacturers are interested in doing. A portable booster wouldn’t work in a lot of the places people would want to use it. Cell boosters don’t work outdoors in most cases, for example. They don’t work out in the woods. That kind of stuff is rooted in physics, and it’s not likely to change.

It’s also important to remember, all cell phone signal boosters are not the same. Some boosters are designed for cars, some for trucks, or marine, or for RVs. Cell phone signal boosters optimized for homes aren’t really the right choice for businesses. Every booster is designed to work in a specific area and it just might not be the right choice for another area.

So the question is really “should you”

I think if you’re asking yourself about a portable cell booster you have to ask the more important question, “even if you could do it, should you?” Are you thinking about a portable booster because you want to save money? More than ever, I get that. Or are you thinking of using a booster somewhere that it might not work? If you go to your cabin by the lake and there’s no cell service, you’re going to think about what to do. If there’s even one bar of service outside, you’ll be able to use a booster inside as long as there’s electricity in your cabin of course. But, the booster you need for your cabin probably isn’t the one you need at your home. The one at home is also probably permanently installed.

It would be nice if you could just by the amplifier part of the booster and carry just that from place to place. Believe it or not that’s not allowed by federal law. You can, however, buy spare outdoor and indoor antennas and cable. If you really wanted to go that direction, this would let you do it.

You can get replacement or spare cellular antennas and all the cable you need when you shop at Solid Signal. We have all the popular brands and styles to fit any need.
